Our Values

Welcome to the studio! We are committed to providing you the best experience. Our teachers are experienced, knowledgeable and understand that every student is unique and always trying their best.

All are welcome. We are all going through our own healing process whether its physical, mental or emotional. We are a judgement free zone.

While full classes mean a high energy room, we don't overfill our classe so students get more personal attention.

getting started

All levels are welcome to all classes. Do what you can, even if it's just to sit quietly and enjoy the energy in the room.
Classes are a prescribed sequence of breathing exercises and postures so we ask that you stay for the full class. For safety & security reasons, doors lock at the start of class and there are no late entries or early dismissals.
While you can sign up online through MBO, it is not required. We do recommend arriving at least 15 minutes prior to the start of class so you have time to fill out a waiver, process payment and get settled in.
Come hydrated; be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day.
It is recommended to practice on an empty stomach and best not to eat anything heavy 2 hours prior to class. - Wear something that you can move and sweat in.  
Bring a water bottle, towel and mat. If needed, we have mats to rent for $1 and towels for $2, but they are free your first visit!
Please remove your shoes in the front reception area.
There are cubbies available in the changing room, but please leave your valuables at home. 
IAY is not responsible for any lost or stolen items. We ask that you do not bring personal belongings (yes, including cell phones!) into the yoga room.
Socializing is highly encouraged in the lobby, reception & lounge areas. Inside the yoga room we respectfully ask for your silence so you & others can relax and meditate before and after class. 
Teachers are available 30 min before & after class for any questions or needs related to your practice.
If you have any major health concerns like a recent surgery, accident or injury, please let your teacher know upon signing in. We can offer suggestions and variations to keep you safe while enjoying your practice!

For the longest time I didn't try yoga because I was scared and anxious. I had a misconception of what it was to be a yogi. I thought everyone was skinny and fit and had the best yoga clothes and knew what they were doing. It took a while for me to try and sometimes I wish I could go back and tell my past self just to do it because, yes, there are some of the skinny fit folks in the best yoga clothes who know what they're doing, but most of us are all just there for the journey.

The studio is a warm, safe space with no judgement or competition. We support, encourage and uplift. Everyone is welcome. My only rule is we treat each other with kindness, always. Be yourself and know you are enough in whatever version you show up in and leave with. You will leave not a better version of yourself because you’re perfect how you are, but with a stronger acceptance of yourself.

This is your space, your practice. You belong.

Is there a beginner's class?

What are the benefits of Yoga?

- All classes are suitable for beginners and advanced practitioners alike.
- Classes are intended for all levels, where all are welcome regardless of your fitness level.

- Tones and strengthens all major muscle groups down to the bone.
- Increases balance, strength, flexibility and stamina.
- Builds cardiovascular strength and respiratory balance.
- Promotes weight loss.
- Strengthens and restores all systems of the body.
- Reduces the risk of sports injury and accelerates recovery time.
- Increases concentration and focus.
- Improves productivity and energy level.
- Reduces the effects of stress.
- Improves the health of your skin.
- Brings all systems into balance; mind, body and spirit.

How often should I practice?

- Everyone is different but you can practice everyday. You are energizing your muscles and all systems of your body so you don't need to have rest days or days off. The more you practice the more benefits you will see. Remember, some yoga is better than no yoga so just start to do more and see how you feel, that is the best way to decide.

What should I wear?

 For hot/heated classes and Buti:
 -Women wear shorts and a sports bra or tank top and capris.
 -Men wear running shorts or swimming shorts, t-shirt optional.
- No long or baggy pants. You will be hot and they just get in the way 

For Yin: 
- Loose fitting, comfortable clothes you can move a bit in. While the class is non heated, the room will hold some residual heat from previous classes so layers are a nice option.
- No excessive jewelry.
- Please no perfume or scented lotions out of respect for those who are sensitive to them.

What if I am not flexible?

- It's not just about becoming "physically" flexible. Instead, classes promote a balance between strength and flexibility. Flexibility, like strength and endurance, is built over time and with patience, perseverance and regular practice. You will begin to see your body (and mind!) open up in ways you never imagined possible

I have an injury or an illness - can I still practice?

- Everyone and every injury is different so please be sure to talk to your doctor before trying something new or different.  
- Please be sure to talk to the instructor before class as we can often offer modifications. 
- In general, practice is healing for many different illnesses and injuries. The increased circulation of oxygenated blood throughout the body helps to heal injuries faster and also works to boost the immune system. 

Do you have changing rooms and showers?

- Yes! We have 3 showers in the women's changing room and there are 2 showers in the men's changing room. Remember to be courteous with others and take quick showers. Save your long showers for when you are in the comfort of your home. The doors are locked 30 minutes after each class, so you'll have to be sure you are done before then. 
- We have cubbies to store belongings but please leave any valuables at home; IAY is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.

- The heat is not there to make it tough, it is there to help.
- Increases cardiovascular stamina.
- Increases elasticity of the muscles allowing for deeper stretching.
- Improves lung expansion capacity.
- Flushes toxins from the body.
- Reduces the signs of aging by replenishing skin cells.
